Wear Tracking

Wear Tracking helps you answer "is this car ready?" from the places you already use: the Garage, each car's Driving → Wear ledger, the Parts inventory, and the track session log.

TrackOut can monitor tires, brake pads, and any part you choose to measure over time -- such as clutches, bushings, fluids, or other consumables with a numeric wear value.

Where wear status appears

SurfaceWhat you can do
GarageSee a prep card before an upcoming track day and a Wear critical chip on cars that need attention.
Car detailUse the Readiness panel above the tabs to see whether tire, brake, fluid, and inspection data are ready for the next event.
Car detail > Driving > Wear ledgerSee every tire, pad, and part reading for the car tagged Session or Service, and each part's wear rate and projected sessions left.
Car detail > Build > PartsSee every part's life reading, with measured parts scored on their measurement rather than a usage budget. Open a part to log a new measurement.
Track session logAdd measurements for opted-in parts while saving a session.

The previous cross-car Wear destination has been replaced by these car-specific surfaces so wear decisions stay tied to the car, parts, and event you are working on.

Prep before a track day

When TrackOut sees an upcoming track day, it folds a Pre-event prep check into that event — on the Garage's Up Next list and the Events calendar. It checks the car assigned to that event and groups tires, brake pads, and wear-tracked parts by status.

  • Blocked / critical items should be handled before the event.
  • Attention / warning items are still usable but worth checking.
  • Stale / unmeasured items need a newer reading before TrackOut can judge them confidently.
  • Ready / OK items are currently above the configured wear threshold.

Cars with critical items open by default so the highest-risk work is visible first. If everything is unmeasured, the card prompts you to log tread depth and pad thickness instead of pretending the car is ready.

The parts wear banner uses the same safety-first language. Red items are safety-impacting, yellow items are worth watching, and grey stale-data prompts are visually quieter so they do not compete with real alerts.

Garage tile chip

Cars with critical tire, brake, or part wear can show a Wear critical chip directly on the Garage tile, so you can spot an issue before opening the car.

The car's wear ledger

Open a car, choose the Driving tab, and pick Wear ledger from its "..." menu (or the Wear ledger link on the Tire wear card) to review that car's consumable health.

The Wear ledger shows:

  • Every tire tread reading, brake pad measurement, and wear-tracked part reading, one line per tire set (or pad set, or part) for each place and day it was measured. Each tire's History on Tires also lists mount stints with miles used, purchase or added-to-inventory dates, and every logged millimetre reading. A long mount history shows the newest stints and says Showing your most recent mounts. when older ones exist.
  • The tread a tire set started with and the thickness a pad set was fitted at, as a Service line, so a set you haven't measured yet still shows what it started at.
  • Each measured part's wear rate and the sessions left before its safety floor, once it has enough readings.

Tire and pad names use the brand and model you saved -- on the car's Wear ledger, in pre-event prep, and in dialogs across the garage. A model with no brand shows just the model (for example Pilot Sport 4S). A brand with no model shows just the brand. TrackOut does not fill the empty slot with "Unknown" or a generic "Tire".

Use Log first measurement or Log new measurement to record tread depth, pad thickness, or a part measurement without leaving the car page.

The tread-depth sheet has a Measured on date that defaults to today. Change it when you are entering a reading you took earlier -- a gauge read at the track on Sunday and typed up on Wednesday keeps Sunday's date, so it lands in the right place in your wear history and freshness reflects when you measured rather than when you typed. You cannot pick a future date.

The same Measured on date is on the part and brake-pad wear sheets, which is how you reconstruct a component's history after the fact: enter the old readings with the dates you took them and they land on those days in the ledger, the charts, and the wear-rate projection instead of bunching up on today.

Backdating a reading does not change the part's current status. A measurement dated last month describes last month, so TrackOut keeps the most recent reading by measurement date as the current one.

Millimetres or 32nds

Tread depth is shown and entered in millimetres by default. If you read a gauge marked in 32nds of an inch, switch the unit with the mm | /32" switch on the tread-depth sheet, on a tire's Log measurement sheet or in Close the day, or under Settings → Units → Tread depth. It is one setting: the tire inventory, the car's Wear ledger, the tread-depth sheet, a session's Off the track and readings cards, the pre-event checklist, Close the day, the wear charts and the printed track-day report all follow it. If you switch while a depth is already typed, the number is converted, not relabelled.

The Carried from card on day two of an event still lists the previous day's tread in millimetres; Close the day itself shows those values in your unit.

The measurement itself is stored the same way either way, so switching back and forth never changes your history, and nothing you logged before the switch needs redoing. Readings in 32nds are whole numbers, because that is what a gauge marked in 32nds reads.

Wear Ledger

The car's Driving → Wear ledger lists every wear measurement for that car in one place, newest first. The ledger combines tire tread readings, brake pad measurements, and wear-tracked part readings.

The table reads Date · Source · Set · Reading · Heat cycles. Each line is tagged by where it was taken: Session for a reading logged at a track day (with the day's track and the session it followed, for example Summit Point · after S2), and Service for one logged in the garage or a set's starting measurement. A set's four corners measured together share one line, for example LF 5.1 · RF 4.8 · LR 5.6 · RR 5.4 mm, or 5.5 mm all round when all four match. A single corner keeps its name (RR 5.5 mm), and each reading is labeled by the corner it was taken on, even if the tire has been rotated since. Pads read F 7.8 · R 8.4 mm. Heat cycles shows the set's current count on its newest line. Use All, Tires, Pads, and Parts (each with its count) to narrow the list.

On the Driving tab, the Tire wear card shows the tread on the set on the car, corner by corner, after each session it was measured at -- for example Oct 3 · S2 -- back to the day the set went on. A corner close to the legal minimum reads yellow, and Wear ledger opens the full ledger.

Below the readings, Wear rate has one row per part:

Tread typed into a session log's corner sheet or Off the track card appears here too, dated to that session or track day's calendar date rather than when you typed it -- including if you are west of UTC.

  • The part or tire being tracked
  • Recent measurement history
  • A sparkline for quick trend scanning
  • An estimated sessions-remaining value when there is enough history

TrackOut needs several measurements before a projection is useful. If you only have one or two readings, use the ledger as history first and keep logging new measurements after sessions.

Set up wear tracking for a part

You can opt a durable part into measured wear tracking from the part form.

  1. Open Parts, or a car's Build → Parts.
  2. Add or edit a durable part.
  3. Turn on Track wear over time.
  4. Enter a starting value, unit, and optional minimum value.
  5. Save the part.

Once enabled, the part appears in wear-aware places: the Parts inventory summary, inline part rows, the car's Wear ledger, pre-event prep checks, and eligible session logs.

Use any unit that makes sense for the part, such as mm, %, psi, or in.

Sparse data is okay

A part with wear tracking enabled but no readings is shown as Unmeasured. Log the first value when you inspect it; TrackOut will start building history from there.

Log part measurements

You can record part measurements from several workflows:

  • Parts inventory row -- Click Log or Log first on a wear-tracked part.
  • Track session log -- When the selected car has wear-tracked parts, the form shows a Parts check section so you can enter measurements while saving the session.

Measurements entered from a track session are linked to that session, so later analysis can connect part wear to the day and session where it was recorded.

Reading the status

Wear status is intentionally descriptive:

StatusMeaning
OKThe item is above its warning threshold.
WarningThe item is approaching its replacement threshold.
CriticalThe item is at or below the safety/replacement threshold.
UnmeasuredTrackOut does not have enough measurement data yet.

Wear tracking is a planning aid. Always verify safety-critical parts manually before driving on track.
