Report Card Point
A report-card point is a fixed spot just past a corner's exit where TrackOut reads your speed on every lap. Exit speed there carries all the way down the straight, so a higher number at the same spot means a better exit -- it turns "did that exit work?" into one figure you can compare lap to lap.
What it measures
You set one point per turn, a little past where the corner opens onto the next straight. For every lap you are comparing, TrackOut reads your speed at that exact spot and shows them together, with the fastest lap highlighted and the spread between your best and slowest runs.
Because the point is stored as a place on the track layout -- not on one lap -- the same spot is read on every lap, and on every session you analyze at that track. A lap that carried more speed through the point got a better drive off the corner.
Where it lives
The Report card panel is in the analysis cockpit, below the Turn inspector, whenever the session resolves to a recognized track layout -- both when you upload a telemetry file and when you reopen a saved session. A session at an unrecognized venue does not show it, because there is no turn to grade.
Your points are yours
Report-card points are private to the account that set them. Nobody else sees your points, and you never see anyone else's.
Setting a point
- Open a session in the analysis cockpit and make sure it has matched a track layout.
- In the Report card panel, pick the Turn you want to grade.
- Move the cursor to a spot just past that turn's exit -- scrub the trace there, or click the track map past the exit (a click on the map moves the cursor to that spot).
- Optionally type a short label, like "count to three".
- Click Set point at cursor.
Once a point is set, the panel lists your speed at it for every lap you have selected, with the reference lap marked and the best lap highlighted, plus the best speed and the spread across your laps.
To move the point, scrub to a new spot and click Move point to cursor. To remove it, click Clear.
Pick the spot on a good exit
Set the point where a clean exit is already back to full throttle -- far enough past the apex that corner speed has turned into straight-line speed. Reading the same spot every lap is what makes the comparison fair.
Reading the grades
Each lap shows one speed at the point. The best of your selected laps is highlighted, and the spread tells you how repeatable your exits are -- a wide spread means some laps left time on the table off that corner.
A lap is shown as Unavailable -- never as zero -- when TrackOut cannot read it there: the lap has no speed channel, no GPS to place the point on, or a gap in the recording right at the spot. An unavailable lap is left out of the best and the spread rather than counted as a slow one.
When setting is unavailable
The panel stays read-only, and says why, rather than offering a control that cannot work:
- At an unrecognized venue, or one whose layout declares no turns, the panel does not appear -- there is no corner to grade.
- When you are not signed in on a recognized track, the panel explains that you need to be, because a report-card point is saved to your account against that track's layout.
How it handles tricky laps
- Across the start/finish line. A point placed just past a corner that sits near start/finish is still read correctly on every lap -- TrackOut lines each lap up to the track, so wrapping around the line is handled for you.
- Out-laps and in-laps. Any selected lap that reached the point is read; a lap that never got there, or that lost GPS at the spot, shows Unavailable.
- A chicane's two parts. A chicane counts as two corners, so you can set a separate point for each half and grade them independently.
