Sharing
TrackOut lets you create public, read-only share links for a car profile, a single part, a service record, or an entire part group. Anyone with the link can view the shared page in their browser -- no TrackOut account required. Signed-in recipients can also copy shared parts into their own Wishlist.
Creating a share link
Open the thing you want to share and click the Share button. Share is available on:
- The Share car button in a car's header
- Any part detail
- Any service record detail
- Any part group detail
For part groups and collection-style shares, choose what to include:
- Parts -- include each part's details and URL
- Service records -- include each service record (with any linked parts)
Click Create share link when prompted, or use Copy in the Share car dialog. Paste the URL anywhere -- text message, email, forum thread, or your favorite racing group chat.
Only you can share
Share links can only be created by the owner of the item. Viewing a shared link does not give the viewer the ability to re-share it.
Sharing a car profile
Every car has a public profile that starts Private. Open the car, click Edit details, and use the Public page section to choose what visitors can see. Click Share car from the car header or inside the drawer to preview and share the profile.
Car profiles can include:
- Basic identity: photo, nickname, year, make, model, trim, color, car number, and location.
- Your owner's story and how you use the car.
- Selected modifications, with optional outbound product links.
- Service history, personal bests, ownership length, mileage, and total invested -- each controlled by its own visibility toggle.
The Share car dialog shows a live preview, lets you pick the default public style, copies the link, opens the public page, and offers quick share targets for X, Facebook, and email.
The iOS app includes the same car profile sharing controls, so you can review privacy, copy the public link, and manage the shared profile from your phone.
| Style | Best for |
|---|---|
| Buildsheet | A clean, mono-inspired build sheet with your chosen specs and mods. |
| Pit Board | A darker motorsport-style page that highlights car number, use, and personal bests. |
Private by default
Turning on Anyone with link makes the profile visible to people who have the URL. Public car pages are always excluded from search engines, and switching back to Private disables the public view.
Managing share links
Open the same Share dialog to see every link you've created for that item. Each row shows the URL and two controls:
- Switch (on/off) -- Pause or resume a link. When disabled, anyone who opens the link sees a "Link disabled" page. Flip it back on at any time.
- Trash (delete) -- Permanently remove the link. The URL stops working and disappears from your list.
Use the Switch when you want to temporarily restrict access (e.g. during a private testing session) without losing the URL. Use Trash when the share is truly done.
What viewers see
When someone opens a car profile link, they see the public style you selected and only the fields you turned on. Hidden fields are omitted from the page rather than shown as blank.
For parts, service records, and groups, viewers see a clean read-only share view:
- The item's name and your first name as the sharer
- A summary strip showing item count and total price when applicable
- The parts list with manufacturer, part number, description, price, and product links
- Service records with date, cost, description, and any linked parts
Viewers can browse anonymously -- no signup required.
Privacy
Share pages never expose your email, full name, internal IDs, owner-only data, or VIN unless you explicitly opt into showing a field. Only the data you choose is rendered, and share pages are excluded from search engines.
Copy to Wishlist
At the bottom of every shared parts view, a sticky Add to your TrackOut Wishlist button lets the viewer copy selected parts into their own inventory.
Signed-in viewers
If the viewer is already signed in, clicking the button copies the selected parts to their Wishlist immediately with status Want to Buy.
New viewers
If the viewer doesn't have a TrackOut account, they can sign up inline:
- Continue with Google (OAuth)
- Sign up with email (email verification required)
- Or sign in if they already have an account
After signup or sign-in, the copy completes automatically -- even if email verification takes them out to their inbox and back.
What gets copied
For each selected part, a new part is created in the viewer's inventory with:
- Name, manufacturer, part number, description
- URL, link preview, and purchase price (if present on the original)
- Status: Want to Buy
- An attribution note linking back to the share and the original owner
Service records are not copyable -- they're display-only on the share page.
Link lifecycle
| State | What the viewer sees | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Active | The full share view | Share the URL, disable, or delete |
| Disabled | "Link disabled" page | Re-enable anytime or delete |
| Deleted | "No signal" page | Gone permanently; create a new link if needed |
Tips
- One link per configuration. Creating a second identical link just copies the existing one rather than making duplicates.
- Bulk add. The share page selects all parts by default so the viewer can hit Add immediately. They can uncheck any they don't want.
- Receipt-duplicated parts. If a set of 4 wheels shows as a single row with a × 4 badge, the viewer will get all 4 wheels added as separate parts when they copy.
